Why the consultation matters more than the haircut
The most important part of a great appointment happens before a single strand is cut. A proper consultation is where a stylist reads your hair’s history, texture, and growth pattern, looks at photographs of what you actually want, and tells you honestly what is and isn’t possible in one sitting. A salon that skips it — that seats you and starts working — is guessing, and you are paying for the guess.
Treat the consultation as your audition of them, not the other way around. Do they ask before they reach for the shears? Do they push back gently when a photo isn’t realistic for your hair, or do they nod along and hope? The twenty minutes of listening at the start is the single best predictor of whether you’ll like what you see at the end.
